Dave Coba’nın “kırılmış” adlı nü serisi, modellerini kırılmış ya da kısmen “kör” aynalar önünde fotoğraflaması ile oluşturuldu. Resimlerde parlaklık ve kontrast düzeltmelerinden başka hiç bir değişiklik yapılmamıştır. Bu “doğallık” onun tekniğinin olmazsa olmaz kısmıdır.

Konu olarak rüya görme gibi kendinden geçmeden söz ediyoruz. Esrarengiz bir yöntemle değiştirilmiş, çarpıtılmış, kırılmış ve yansıtılmış bir gerçeklik içinde kişisel farkındalık. Bu, bana daha çok,  modellerin kendilerini resmedildikleri gibi görmek istediklerini anlatır. Onlar, kendilerini aynaya koyarak aldatan yönlerini oynarlar. Fotoğrafçı belgeler.

„Bütün ve kırılmış“, „açık ve belirsiz“ ile „doğrudan ve dolaylı“ „ yakınlık ve uzaklık“ arasındaki gerilim durumları bu yaratılan hayal dünyasından ortaya çıkmaktadır. Böylelikle resimler belirsizlikle oynuyor, sorular ortaya koyuyor, rüya gibi.

Dave Coba’nın çalışma yöntemine göre; „Bunun gibi resimler teknik olarak planlanmış,/kurgulanmış olmamalı… Bu, yüzeysellik anlamına gelir.“

“Otomatik yazı” serisine benzer olarak „kırılmış“ serisi, çok hassas bir ruhsal durum döneminde  bilinçsizce kendiliğinden ortaya çıkmıştır.  

Böylece resimler rüyalardır: hiç bir zaman açık olmayan, hiç bir zaman sonunda açıklanabilir olmayan - bitmek tükenmek bilmeyen- planlanmış herhangi bir şeyin üretebileceğinden daha çok. Ben bile onun neyden yapılmış olduğunu bilmiyorum.

Dave Coba’s nudes series „broken“ was created by photographing his models in front of broken, partly “blind” mirrors. Aside from a correction of brightness and contrast the pictures were not altered. This “naturalness” is an essential aspect of his technique.

Thematically we’re talking about dreamlike rapture – self awareness in a reality that’s altered, twisted, broken and reflected in an enigmatic way. It means a lot to me that the models wanted to see themselves as they were portrayed: They played their deceive part by “putting themselves into the mirror” The photographer documents.

States of tension between the “whole and broken”, the “obvious and the ambiguous” (broken obviousness/reality) between “direct and indirect”, nearness and distance are growing out of this created dream world. Thus the pictures are playing with ambiguity, raise questions, dreamlike.

Dave Coba’s working method is accordingly: “Pictures like these mustn’t be technically planned/constructed… this would mean superficiality.”

Similar to the “écriture automatique” the series “broken” emerged spontaneously from the unconscious in a subtle mood of day-dreaming. Getting to this state of mind often involves more energy than the photography itself.

“Thus the pictures are dreams: never obvious, never finally explainable – full of inexhaustible – more than anything planned could ever produce. Not even I myself know all what it’s made of.”

In order to create my art, my photographs, I proceed to another level of experience. To get there it needs a well rested day, absolute calm, concentration and total relaxion at the same time. I proceed to a state where experience itsself – life – is standing before me concrete like a rock. It’s this moment when it hits you. Directly.

Each time it happens it takes something from me but at the same time it gives back much more than I can grasp.

I’ve always loved a temperature that’s too cold actually. Not much too cold, I’m not talking of minus degrees, I’m talking of this kind of temperature where you feel a bit chilly as for example on one of the early autumn days when you still dressed in light clothes of the warm noon – get crept over by the feeling which I love that much,- suddenly and mostly from the back.

Unexpectedly it comes, first silently, then shaking and hitting you for short! Normally forgotten the next moment and relished much too rarely: like silvery beats it trickles down your back,- cool and rapidly. What I love about it is the unexpected and especially the uncontrolable. I’m waiting for it. The moment it occurs each thought is interrupted, totally taken unawares. You don’t feel anything else for a second - and everything at the same time. A moment of pure being, a moment of concrete reality.

Life comes suddenly,- like a flash.

Moments of these, moments of life are what I want to capture in my photographs and set them free again with who views them.

1981’de Almanya’da doğdu. Sanatçı Pia Sarda’nın oğlu. Son iki yıldır Berlin’den Paris ve New York’a kadar sergiler açtı. Ayrıca sanatı, “Kunsttour Maastricht” gibi uluslararası sanat etkinliklerinde de sunuldu.

Dave Coba, törebilim ve uzak doğu bilgeliği konuları başlıca olmak üzere filozofi okudu. O zamandan beri tamamen fotoğrafçılığa odaklandı. Duyguları, hem insani hem de sanatsal araştırma isteğiyle ilk keşif yolculuklarını Avrupa, Orta Amerika ve Asya’ya doğru yaptı. Uluslararası önde gelen model şirketlerinden biri olan Metropolitan Models ile sözleşme imzaladı. Şu sıralar olağanüstü müstesna bir seri olan ve önemli kişileri de içeren sanatçı portreleri üzerinde çalışıyor.

Born in Germany, 1981. Son of the artist Pia Sarda. During the last two years he had exhibitions from Berlin to Paris and New York. In addition his art has been presented on international art-events like the “Kunsttour Maastricht”.

Dave Coba studied philosophy with main focus on ethics and far-eastern wisdom. Since then he completely centered on photography. Being motivated by the wish of both human and artistic search for sense, he went on first expeditions through Europe, Central America, and Asia. He is signed on one of the international leading model agencies: Metropolitan Models. At present he is working on an unusual, exceptional series of artists’-portraits, already including some prominent faces.
