‘Balkan Düğünü Fotoğraf Çalışması’ projesinin hikayesi nedir?

Balkan Düğünü fotoğraf çalışması, devam etmekte olan Balkan ülkelerindeki çingene kültürü ve günlük hayata odaklı projenin bir bölümü.

Nerelerde çalışıp, fotoğraf çekiyorsunuz?

Balkan Düğünü fotoğraf çalışması, Bulgaristan’ın kuzeydoğusundaki küçük bir köy olan Staro Oryahovo’da görüntülendi.

Fikrin çıkış noktası nedir, nasıl oluştu?

Proje fikri, benim genel olarak Balkan kültürüne ve özellikle de Balkan çingenelerine olan özel ilgim sonucu oluştu. Aslında projenin Varna’daki at pazarı çalışması, Bulgaristan’ın farklı bölgelerindeki çingenelerin günlük yaşantısı çalışması, Sofya’daki “Kadınlar Pazarı” olarak bilinen yiyecek pazarı gibi başka bölümleri de var.

Başlangıç ve bitiş tarihi? Ne zaman başladı ve tamamlandı?

Projeye 2004’te başladım ve ne zaman biteceği konusunda en ufak bir fikrim yok, bu nedenle oldukça kısa çalışmalar şeklinde bir formatı seçtim. Böylece her biri projenin küçük ama tamamlanmış bir bölümünü oluşturuyor.

Neden bu proje?

Bulgaristan’da yaşayan çingenelerin karmaşık ve kültürel durumları, diğer milletlerle olan ilişkileri ilgimi çekti.

Bu proje için kaç fotoğraf çektiniz?

Oldukça fazla, tam olarak sayısını söyleyemeyeceğim, çok fazla iş vardı...

Hayır, sadece gerçek hayatı çektim.

Gerçekleştirme aşamasında: çalışmanın en komik, en üzücü ve en unutulmaz anları nelerdi?

Yoksulluk sınırı altında yaşayan insanların hayatlarını fotografik olarak araştırmak her zaman üzücü olmuştur. Düğün çalışmasında bu çok belirgin olmasa da, genelde Bulgaristan’da yaşayan insanlar, özellikle de azınlıklar sefalet içinde yaşıyorlar.

Bize projenizin öncesi, gerçekleşme süreci ve sonrasına dair bir kaç şey söyleyebilir misiniz?

Bu projenin sosyal bir röportaj olması amaçlanmıştır ve ben bu konuda az bilgisi olan insanlara, çingene hayatını içeriden göstermeyi istedim.

What is the  `Balkan Wedding photo essay` project ?  (a brief story of your project)

Balkan Wedding photo essay is a part of the ongoing project on Balkan countries with focus on gipsy culture and everyday life.

Work place? (Where do you work and take thoses photos)

Balkan Wedding photo essay was shot in the small village of Staro Oryahovo, in the north-east part of Bulgaria

The birth of the idea/project, how has been achieved?  how was the project come out?

The idea of the project came out of my great interest in Balkan culture in general and balkan gipsy culture in particular. So far the project has several essays, for example essay on horse market in Varna, essay on everyday life of gipsies in different parts of Bulgaria, essay on so called “Womens market” (basically – food market) in Sofia, etc..

The date of commencement and lasts? when did it begin and finish?

I started this project in 2004 and I have no idea when it will be finished, so I have chosen the form of quite short essays, so each of them can present one small but completed part of the project.

Why this project? "What was the reason and purpose?

I was intrigued by complexity and different cultural aspects of gipsy’s life in Bulgaria, their relations with other nationalities. 

How many pictures did you take for this project?

Quite a lot, could not say how many exactly, it has been a lot of work...

Is there any fiction?

No, I shoot only real life things.

Is it a `team` or `individual` project?

This is an individula project.

Have you  got any sponsor ?

Unfortunately, no.

Have you ever expose your project, if so, where and when?

So far – only internet, for example deviantart.com and my blog in LiveJournal.com

During the realization: What's the most comical, the saddest moment of labor? And the unforgettable?

It has always been sad to photographically explore life of people that live below poverty line... It may not be so obvious in Wedding essay, but in general, people in Bulgaria, especialy minorities, live in misery...

Could you tell us with few word pre-during-post of your project?

The project was intended to be a social reportage, and I wanted to show gipsy’s life “from inside” for those people who know little about it...
