Bize kendiniz ve fotograf yolculuğunuz hakkında kısa bir bilgi verebilir misiniz?
Benim üniversite öğrenimim coğrafya ve özellikle haritacılık üzerine, halen uzaysal ilişkiler le ilgili görsel konulara meyilliyim ve insanların yaşamları ile ilgiliyim. Son zamanlarda, bana fotoğrafçılığı ardışık bir yolla düşünmeyi öğreten Nathan Lyons üstünde çalışmaya zaman harcıyorum.
Can you give us some brief information about yourself and your journey of photography?
My undergraduate degree is in geography with an emphasis on cartography, and I still tend to approach visual subject matter with spatial relationships and design in mind. I am also a freelance photojournalist, and I am interested in people’s lives. Recently, I have spent time working with Nathan Lyons who has taught me to think of photography in a sequential way.

Makinanız ve donanımızın hakkında bilgi alabilir miyiz?
Çok yakın zamana kadar bir Mamiya rb67 kullanıyordum. Aynı zamanda bir Nikon f5, d200’üm ve yaşlı bir adamdan aldığım garip bir 4x5 kameram var.
What are your cameras and equipments ?
I have been using a Mamiya rb67 a lot recently. I also have a Nikon f5 and d200 and strange 4x5 camera that I bought from an old man. I have a hard time going anywhere without a camera of some sort.

Can you give us some information about your technique shortly?
I pay close attention to how light exists naturally in my environment. I tend to photographs things that look uniquely situated with light.
Klasik fotoğrafçılıkla modern fotografçılık arasındaki fark için ne düşünüyorsunuz?
Fazla bir fark olduğunu düşünmüyorum. Fotoğrafçılar bugün, teknolojide dürüstçe dramatik bir değişiklikle ilgililer fakat her zaman öyleydiler. Şimdi meydana getirilen şekillerin miktarı şimdiye kadar olduğundan daha fazladır ; fakat daha az kalıcıdır.
What do you think about it's difference in the contemporary photography compared with the classical photography?
I really don’t think there is that much difference. Photographers today are dealing with a fairly dramatic shift in technology, but they always have been. The amount of images that are being made now is far greater than ever before, but they are less permanent.

According to you, are there any advantages and disadvantages with digital photography
I tend to like how images are rendered on film rather that a sensor, but in the end, I scan my negatives before I print them, so there is not a big difference.

What do you want to transfer about yourself and your feelings to people looking at your photographs? What is your purpose taking photographs?
The act of seeing is what I enjoy the most about photography. I try to relate the experience of a sublime visual moment with people that look at my photographs.
Ülkenizde fotoğrafçı olmak nasıl bir şey?
Benim için bu soruyu cevaplamak zor çünkü başka bir ülkede hiç bir zaman fotoğrafçı olmadım. Amerika’da bir fotoğrafçı olmak iyi fakat bu ülkede şu anda bazı sebeplerden dolayı pekçok paranoya var. Profesyonel olarak sadece fotoğrafçı olmak gittikçe zorlaşıyor. Eğer akan bir çok gelirin varsa , işe yarar.
How's it to be a photographer in your country ?
It’s hard for me to answer this because I have never been a photographer in another country. Being a photographer in the U.S. is good, but there is a lot of paranoia in this country right now for a number of reasons. Professionally, it is getting a harder to be just a photographer, it helps if you have multiple streams of income.
Kafanızdaki gelecek projeleriniz nelerdir?
Birkaç yıldır biriktirdiğim çalışmalardan tamamen siyah - beyaz bir kitap yapmak istiyorum.
What are your next projects in your mind ?
I want to make a book from all of the black and white work that I have accumulated over that past few years.

Is there one story / experience that stands out in the making of photo-work?
I one time photographed a woman giving birth. It was unbelievable.

Hiç bulunmadım fakat bir gün gitmeyi isterim. Alex Webb’in Türkiye’de yaptığı çalışmaları gördüm, çok güzeldi.
Have you ever been to Turkey ? What do you think about it?
I have never been to Turkey, but I would love to go someday. I have seen the work that Alex Webb has done in Turkey and it is very nice.
Yeni fotoğrafçılar için, bir proje üstünde çalışmanın ne tür farklılıklar yarattığı hakkında bize ne söylersiniz ?
Bence aynı zamanda birden fazla proje üstünde çalışmak iyi bir fikir. Bu yolla herbiri hakkında bilgilenebilir ve sadece tek bir şey üstünde düşünmekten yorulmazsınız.
For new photographer, what do you say to us in what kind of differences made about working on a Project ?
I think it is a good I dea to work on more that one project at the same time. This way they can inform each other and you don’t get tired of thinking about one thing all the time. James Rajotte (1980, Blacksburg, VA) is a photographer currently living in New York. After growing up in rural Pennsylvania, James studied Earth Sciences at Penn State University and earned his MFA from the Visual Studies Workshop in 2007.
