DÜNYA SERİSİ: 2003-2005

Yıllardır doğal dünya tarafından ve onun içinde yaratılmış motiflerden çok etkileniyordum. Bir fotoğrafçı olarak fotoğrafçılıkta;  su, rüzgar ve ışık gibi doğal kaynakları kaydetme ve sunmada rol oynuyorum. Bu iki ilgimin birleşimi dünya serisini ortaya çıkarttı. Doğadaki farkına varması güç ama doğal dünyanın fiziğini çağrıştırmakta kuvvetli güçleri görünür kılmak istedim. Bu fotoğraflar soyut ve bazen detaylarda inceliğe dayanan karmaşık örneklerden oluşur

Dünya serisindeki doğal evrim, aynı araştırmalardan faydalanan Dünya Haritalarına neden olmuştur ama burada her biri 16x20’ye uyarlanmış jelatin gümüş görüntüleri, iki kanatlı bir tabloda veya daha geniş bir görünüm için dörtlü halde bira raya getirdim. Haritalar tarih boyunca, kara şekillerini tanımlamada ve belirli yerleri ve yönleri bulmada kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmayı Dünya Haritaları olarak adlandırdım çünkü ben harita kavramını soyut bir fikir olarak yeniden yorumlamak, bir araya getirildiklerinde aşina gelen yada gelmeyen bu desenleri harita haline getirmek istedim. EARTH SERIES: 2003-2005

For years I have been fascinated with patterns created within and by the natural world. As a photographer, I was also interested in the role of photography in recording and presenting natural forces; water, wind and light. The merging of these two interests result in Earth Series. I want to make visible the forces in nature which are difficult to discern, but are powerful connotations of the physics of the natural world. These images result in abstract and sometimes complex patterns that rely heavily on the subtlety of detail.

The natural evolution in the Earth Series led to Earth Maps, which utilizes the same investigation, but here I bring together individual 16” x 20” toned gelatin silver images into a diptych or a “quadtych” to form a larger image. Maps have been used throughout history to describe land formations and provide directions traversing or finding specific locations. I call this work Earth Maps because I wanted to reinterpret the utilitarian notion of a map as an abstract idea, to “map” these patterns that may, or may not, become familiar once they are linked together. The result is a landscape map of a particular locale and pattern that forms by virtue of the elements in nature.

 

AY SERİSİ : 2005-2006

Ay serisi, anne olmaya karar verdiğim ve Mayıs ayında doğum yaptığım 2005 yaz gündönümünden Mayıs 2006’ya kadar oluşan 12 dolunayı kapsar. Bu çalışmanın düşüncesi, insan yaşamındaki çeşitli sahnelerin, hamilelik sürecinde meydana gelen her ay döngüsüyle mecazi olarak yorumlanmasıdır. Bu seri aynı zamanda, zaman ve evrimi mecazi hızlandırılmış fotoğrafla sonuçlanan soyut bir şekilde incelemektedir. Zaman ve zamanı izleme fikri benim ilgimi çok çekiyor. Ve bu seri için yalnızca dişil özelliklerinden ötürü değil aynı zamanda onun insan yaşamı tarihindeki istikrarlı zaman döngülerini izlemek için Ay konusunu kullandım. Bana göre film, zamanı yakalamak için gerekli bir araç ve özellikle fotoğraf, akıp giden anları şiirsel bir biçimde yakalayabilir.

Bu görüntüler çeşitli ebatlarda, Somerset arşiv kağıdı üzerine arşivsel boya malzemeli mürekkep baskı.

MOON SERIES: 2005-2006

The Moon Series encompasses one year of photographing twelve full moons, one per lunar cycle, from Summer Solstice 2005 through May 2006, beginning when the idea of motherhood was a preconceived notion and ending when I gave birth in May 2006. The concept of this body of work has been to make a metaphorical interpretation for the various stages in the development of human life that occurs with each lunar cycle during pregnancy. This series also explores the idea of time and evolution abstractly, resulting in a metaphorical time-lapsed photograph. I am intrigued by time and the idea of tracking time and used the subject of the Moon for this series, not only for its feminine qualities, but also because of its history in human life for tracking consistent cycles of time. For me, film is the necessary tool for trying to capture time, and photography specifically, can capture lapsed moments poetically.

These images are various sizes, archival pigment ink prints on Somerset archival paper.

GÖKYÜZÜ SERİSİ : 2007’den bugüne

Bu seri, diğer iki çalışmam olan Dünya ve Ay serilerinin doğal bir devamıdır. Benim çalışmam, gerçek anlamda, çevre ve onun hareket sürecindeki doğal evrimleri ile ilgili bir belgeseldir. (2005-2008 arasındaki tüm çalışma, hareketsiz bir anda hareketli bir belgesel yaratan uzun pozlamalar içermektedir.) Daha özel bir manada, çalışmam izleyiciye, zamanın ve mekanın mantıktan çok duygulara dayanan deneyimden elde edilen imajlarla, kendi ilişkilerini kurmalarına izin veren zaman ve mekana ait soyut bir sunumdur Seri, bazen iyi tanımlanmış, bazen de mekanın belirsizliği arasında bulanıklaşmış ufku odak olarak almıştır.

SKY SERIES: 2007-Present

This series is the natural progression from my other two bodies of work, the Earth Series and the Moon Series. In the literal sense, my work is a documentation of the environment and its natural evolutions in the course of a moment (all of my work, from 2005-2008 involves long exposures, which creates a moving documentation in a still moment). In the more esoteric sense, my work is an abstract representation of time and place, that allows the viewer to create their own relationship to the image through a visceral experience. This series focuses on the horizon; sometimes well defined, and sometimes it is blurred between an ambiguous sense of place.

Jennifer Schlesinger doğma büyüme Connecticut’lıdır. 1998’de Santa Fe Üniversitesi Fotoğrafçılık ve Gazetecilik bölümünde nmezun olmuştur. Jennifer çeşitli organizasyonlar ve okullarda fotoğrafçılığı öğretmiş ve Santa Fe Üniversitesi Marion Fotografik Sanatlar Merkezi’nde yardımcı fakülte üyesidir. 12 yıldır dünyayı fotoğrafçılık yolu ile incelemekte ve Çağdaş Sanatlar Merkezi (Santa Fe), Eastern New Mexico University ve Santa Fe Sanat Enstitüsü gibi pek çok  üniversitede sanat organizasyonlarında, galerilerin yanısıra, Portland Northwest Sanat Koleji, Chelsea Sanat Müzesi ve son olarak Şikago’daki Bridge Sanat Fuarı’nda uluslarası sergileri olmuştur. Çalışmaları pek çok katolog ve dergilerde yayınlanmış, Kaliforniya’da Huntington Botanik Sanatlar Koleksiyonu ve Santa Fe’deki New Mexico Sanat Müzesi gibi pek çok özel ve halk koleksiyonunda yer almıştır.2005’de New Mexico Sanat Bölümü’nden bir ödül, Maine Fotografik atölyeleri Manzara fotoğrafçılığı Altın Işık Ödülü ve New Mexico Fotoğafçılık Merkezi tarafından verilen Willard Van Dyke Ödülü’nü aldı.2007’de New Mexico Fotoğrafçılık Konseyi tarafından düzenlenen Eliot Porter Cemiyeti ve Santa Fe Fotoğrafçılık Ödülü için aday gösterildi. 2007’de Çağdaş Sanatlar Fotoğrafçılık Müzayede Ödülünü de aldı.

Schlesinger kar amacı gütmeden, Çağdaş Sanatlar Merkezi (Santa Fe 1999-2001), SITE Santa Fe (1999-2002) gibi çeşitli organizasyonların sanat yönetimlerinde görev aldı ve Santa Fe Sanat Enstitüsü Yönetici yardımcılığını yaptı.  Daniel Langlois Vakfı tarafından satın alınan Woody Vasulka ile Vasulka Arşivi’nde yardımcı küratörlük yaptı. Çalışmaları Santa Fe’de Verve Fotoğraf Galerisi’nce ve Atlanta’da Soho Myriad tarafından temsil edilmektedir.

Jennifer Schlesinger is a Connecticut native, who graduated from the College of Santa Fe in 1998 with a B.A. in Photography and Journalism. Jennifer has taught photography for various organizations and schools and has been an adjunct faculty member in the Marion Center for Photographic Arts, College of Santa Fe. She has been investigating the world through photography for over twelve years and has exhibited at numerous colleges, art organizations and galleries including Southwest regional venues such as Center for Contemporary Arts (Santa Fe), Eastern New Mexico University, and Santa Fe Art Institute as well as nationally, such as the Portland Northwest College of Art, the Chelsea Art Museum and most recently at the Bridge Art Fair in Chicago. Her work has been published in numerous catalogues and magazines, and is represented in many private as well as public collections including the Huntington Botanical Art Collections in California and the The New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe. In 2005 she received three honors of recognition; a grant from the New Mexico Arts Division; a Golden Light Award in Landscape Photography by the Maine Photographic Workshops and she was a finalist in the Willard Van Dyke Grant given by the New Mexico Center for Photography. In 2007 she was nominated for the Santa Fe Prize for Photography by The Center and the Eliot Porter Fellowship by the New Mexico Council on Photography. And in 2007 she was also awarded the Center for Contemporary Arts Photography Auction Award. 

Schlesinger has worked in non-profit arts administration for various organizations including the Center for Contemporary Arts, (Santa Fe, 1999-2001); SITE Santa Fe (1999-2002), and was the Assistant Director for Santa Fe Art Institute (2002-2005). She served as Co-Curator with Woody Vasulka on the Vasulka Archive for purchase by the Daniel Langlois Foundation in 2000 while in residency at the Art & Science Laboratory. Her work is represented by Verve Gallery of Photography in Santa Fe, NM and Soho Myriad in Atlanta, GA.
