These images of the New York City subway lay dormant for over two and a half decades. Now with the subways cleaner, safer and no longer a horror to ride, I suddenly had ‘New York City nostalgia’ on my hands. Looking back, I wish I had shot more. And strange as it may sound, it was easier photographing someone down in the tubes than than it is now. I would ride the subways at all hours of the day or night until I felt I got a good photo. Once that was accomplished, I retreated home. With the subway system a mini New York rapidly on the move, I usually had only one chance to capture what I could. Even with the ‘still-life’s’ of the subway, I seldom took more than two shots. With about a hundred images to the essay, I am now in the process of trying to get these photos published as a book.

Bronx doğumluyum, deniz filosunda savaş fotoğrafçısı olarak eğitim gördüm. Bronx born, I was trained as a Combat Still Photographer in the Marine Corps (1968-1971) and was also a graduate of NBCD School (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense School). Once discharged, I attended the School of Visual Arts in NYC and after four years received a BFA in photography (1976). For a year and a half, I worked as Senior Photographer for CitiBank. A freelance photographer and writer since, my work has appeared in various publications such as: New York Times Sunday Magazine, Time/Life Books, IMAX Films, Village Voice, Human Rights Magazine, Shutterbug Magazine (three separate articles written about my work), Hasseleblad Magazine (four separate articles written about my work), American Photographer, Ocean Realm, Dive Travel Magazine, Discover Diving Magazine, Picture Magazine, Popular Photography, Nikon World, Black & White Photography, B&W Magazine, Studio Photography, to name a few.

Over the years, I’ve also worked in security, as a teamster and a substitute teacher for first and second graders in the Bronx as well as being a Jiu-Jitsu instructor for many years in the Bronx.

In 2003, I had my first novel published, The Society. I’ve completed two other novels, The Devil’s Angel and Nommo’s Ark.
