Fotoğrafçılıkta benim ilgimi çeken şey,  insanlarla samimi ilişkiler kurma sürecidir. Normalde insanların bir yabancıya güvenmeyecekleri durumlarda onların güvenini kazanmaktır. Bana göre, acı çeken insanların gerçek duygularından ortaya çıkanları belgelediğim insanlarla bağlantı kurmaktır. Onlara sadece sizin onların durumunu anladığınızı söylemek değil uğraştıkları şeylerde gerçekten yer almanızdır. Beni, onların dünyasının bir parçası gibi gören ve bir yabancı olarak görmeyen insanlarla bir arada olmaktan hoşlanıyorum. What interests me most about photography is the process of building intimate relationships with people.  Getting people to trust you in situations where they would not normally trust a stranger. For me, it's about the connection to the people that I'm documenting, which comes from truly feeling what they are going through. Not just telling them that you are sympathetic to their situation but that you are actually taking on some of what they are dealing with. I like to spend enough time with people that they see me as part of their world and less as an outsider. I deeply invest my own thoughts and emotions in to my projects, where I feel so intensely connected to the people in my stories that I often don't sleep well when I'm involved in a project.  I tend to be like an open wound while I'm working and the people in my stories affect my own life profoundly. Intentionally, my own internal reaction drives how I approach my stories, in that I try to use my own emotions to illustrate the feeling of the story.  In as much as this can be an unhealthy process to work in, it allows me to work from a place of deep compassion, which in turn allows me greater access into the lives of people I'm working with.

Justin Maxon 25 yaşında, San Francisco dışında ikamet eden ve şu anda Philedelphia’da bir proje üzerinde çalışan ödüllü bir fotoğrafçıdır.

En dikkate değer olanı en son kazandığı 2007 Gündelik Yaşam Dünya Basın Tekler Kategorisindeki birincilik ile birlikte 2008 Lucie Ödülleri’nde Yılın Daha Derin Perspektif Fotoğrafçısı uluslararası ödülüdür.

Çalışmaları The FADER, Newsweek, F2 Dergisi, Washington Post, MSNBC, Photo District News, ESPN.com ve çeşitli yayınlarda yayınlandı.

Justin Maxon is a 25-year-old award-winning photographer based out of San Francisco, and is currently working on a project in Philadelphia.

Maxon was born in a small town in the woods of northern California, called Orleans. Nothing but trees and hippies sorta thing. He first got into photography at an early age, but then only took pictures of mountains and other woody features.  Today, Maxon is mainly interested in pursuing documentary projects that focus on the issues of poverty and social injustice.

Maxon discovered his passion for documentary photography while working on a project in San Francisco's Tenderloin, a neighborhood notorious for its poverty and glaring homeless epidemic. He has since worked on other projects in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina and in Vietnam.

Currently, he is working on two long term projects.  One project is back in the Tenderloin District, documenting the wide range of issues people living there face.  The other project is in a small town outside Philadelphia, where he is exploring the importance of religious faith in overcoming community challenges from gang violence, high levels of pollution, to a defective public school system.

Maxon has received a number of awards for his photography, from competitions like the Alexia Grant Foundation, NPPA's Best of Photojournalism, the Photo District News, the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, College Photographer of the Year, and the Hearst Awards Foundation Championship.  Most notably, he recently won first place in the 2007 World Press Photo Daily Life Singles category, along with winning the International Photo Awards Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year at the 2008 Lucie Awards.

His work has been published in The FADER, Newsweek, F2 Magazine, Washington Post, MSNBC, Photo District News, ESPN.com, and various other publications.

He is represented by Aurora Photos.
