Donanımım, bir Olympus kamera ve Epson tarayıcı ile Mac‘de Photoshop programı. Bu kombinasyon sayesinde dijital film tarayıcı kullanarak filmlerimi tararım ve elde ettiğim dijital görüntüleri fotomontaj yapımında kullanırım.13 x 19 baskılar için Epson R2400 yazıcı kullanıyor yahut daha büyük baskıya ihtiyacım varsa bir acenteye yolluyorum. Çalışmalarım siyah-beyaz. Karanlık odamda siyah-beyaz baskı yapmayı seviyorum ve şu an metodum çok farklı olmasına rağmen çalışmalarıma en uygun olanın bu olduğunu düşünüyorum.

Manipule edilmiş görsellere her zaman ilgi duydum ve bu çalışma yöntemini görüntü oluşturmak için mükemmel olduğunu düşündüm. Yeni araçlarımı daha çok anladıkça görüntülerim daha karmaşık hale geldi. Benim işlem sürecim çok sezgisel, kafamda bir fikirle başlamıyorum ama fotoğraf kütüphanemi ilginç bir şeyler buluncaya dek kaydırıyorum ve fotomontaja başlıyorum. Bunları oluştururken dönüm noktası olan anılarıma dayanıyorum. Bu nedenle bu çalışma kişiseldir ve evrenseldir. Bu konular, bu seçimler, bu çabalar insan durumunun bir parçasıdır. Amacım, izleyiciye kendi anılarını tanımaları için bir şans vermektir.

“Odakta, Anılardaki” portfolyosuna 2007 yılında başladım. Geçen yıl bir sergileme sürecinde astığım görseller, bir hikaye haline geldiler ve başlıklar hikaye vasıtası ile izleyiciye ulaştılar. You tube’a bir video koydum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-CNcXeZM-c&fmt=18 ve bir şair ile işbirliği yaparak bir kitap hazırlığı içindeyim.

Amacım çalışmalarımın görülmesiydi ve Fotoritim’e çalışmalarıma olan ilgilerinden ötürü minnettarım.

My equipment is an Olympus camera, an Epson scanner, Photoshop on a mac. This combination allows me to use scanned film and digital images to create my photomontage.  I use an Epson R2400 printer for 13 x 19” prints, or send files to a vendor if I need larger prints. My work is black and white. I loved printing black and white in my darkroom, and feel it best suits my work even though my process is very different now.

I have always been interested in manipulated imagery, and found this way of working to be perfect for my image making. The more I understood my new tools, the more complex my images became.  My process is very intuitive, and I do not start out with an idea in mind but scroll through my photo library until I find something interesting to me and I begin my photomontage. In creating these, I rely on my memory of a moment in time that became a turning point for me. So body of work is personal, and it is universal. These issues, these choices, these struggles are part of the human condition. My intention is to give the viewers a chance to identify their own memories.

I started the In Focus, Out of Memory portfolio in 2007. During an exhibit last year, I hung the images so they became a narrative and the titles moved the viewer through the story. I made a video now posted on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-CNcXeZM-c&fmt=18 and am in process of a book collaboration with a poet.

My goal has been to have my work seen and I very much appreciate your interest in my work for Fotoritim.

Karen Klein, St. Paul Minnesota’da yaşayan bir fotoğrafçı ve görsel sanatçıdır. Minnesota Üniversitesi (1988) atölye sanatlarında master derecesi vardır ve WARM (Minnesotalı Kadın Sanatçılar), Photo Bistro, Woman Made Gallery ve www.mnartists.org.’a katılmıştır.

Çevreyle ilgili yıllarca çalıştıktan sonra 2005 yılında kendi sanatını yapmaya geri döndü.O zamandan beri, kendi taradığı filmler ve dijital görüntüleri kullanarak fotomontaj oluşturma sürecini geliştirdi ve saflaştırdı. Arşivsel pigmentli mürekkep kullanarak baryum monoksit kaplamalı kağıtlara baskı yapıyor. Baskılar “13 x 19” veya 24 x 36” ölçülerinde edinilebilir.

Karen Klein is a photographer/visual artist currently living in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has an MFA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota (1988) and is affiliated with WARM (Women's Art Registry of Minnesota), PhotoBistro, Woman Made Gallery and online at www.mnartists.org.

In 2005, Klein came back to making her art after working for years in the corporate environment. Since then she has developed and refined her process of creating photomontage using her own scanned film and digital images. She prints on baryta-coated papers using archival pigment inks. The prints are available 13 x 19” or 24 x 36”.
