Benim üvey büyükannem Bir İngiliz hanımefendisi idi. Yüksek sınıfa ait çevrelerde yetişti ve iki defa Parlemento üyeleri ile evlendi. Hayatı boyunca yemek pişirmedi ve ben onun ”çocuklar bakılmak içindir, işitilmek için değil”  felsefesini her zaman hissettim.

Bu proje, benim büyükannemi olduğu gibi bir kadın olarak ve sürdürdüğü yaşamı anlatmaya çalışan bir anlatımdır. O zaman, yakında ölmüş olan büyük babamın yasını tutuyordu ve taşradaki büyük aile evinden Westminster’daki daireye taşınıyordu. Büyükannemle modası geçmiş biçimde dekor edilmiş dairesini keşfederek, işbirliği içinde çalıştım ve proje ilerledikçe o bana açılmaya başladı.  Büyükannemin eski çağdaki gücünü ve kırılganlığını bir defada gözler önüne sermeyi amaçladım.

My Step Grandmother is a British lady; she grew up in high class circles and was married twice to Members of Parliament. She has never cooked in her life and I always felt her philosophy was that children were to be seen and not heard.

This project is an expression of trying to understand my Grandmother as the woman she is and the life she has led. At this time she was grieving for the recent death of my Grandfather and was moving from a large family house in the country to live in her flat in Westminster.  I worked collaboratively with my Grandmother exploring her flats dated décor and as the project progressed she began to open up to me. I aimed to reveal the strength and at once the fragility of my Grandmother in old age.
