Bize kendiniz ve fotoğraf yolculuğunuzla ilgili biraz bilgi verir misiniz?

Ben serbest fotoğrafçıyım ve aynı zamanda bir müzisyenim. İşimi seviyorum. Sanatımla mutluyum.

Hangi sanatçıları beğeniyorsunuz? Hangileri sizi etkiliyor?

Sanata tutkunum. Resim, mimari,müzik, edebiyat ve fotoğrafçılık. Bana ilham veren pek çok sanatçıyı beğeniyorum. Brunelleschi’den Steve Blooma’a kadar... Fakat bu soruya yanıt veren herkes büyük ve ölmüş olan sanatçılardan sözeder. Benim yakınımda bana ilham veren pek çok kişi var. Ailem, arkadaşlarım ve tanınmamış fotoğrafçılar...

Tekniğinizle ilgili kısaca bilgi verir misiniz?

Karanlık bir fonda soyutlanmış konuları seviyorum. Konu gün ışığı altındayken  gölgeli ağaçlar, karanlık sular gibi fonlar  bulmaya çalışıyorum. Bu yöntemle, dikkat dağıtan herhangi bir nesneyi ortadan kaldırabilirsiniz. Çerçeveye çok özen göstermeyi seviyorum.

Fotoğraflarınıza bakanlara, kendiniz ve duygularınızla ilgili aktarmak istediğiniz nedir? Fotoğraf çekmekteki amacınız nedir?

Sadece, insanların fotoğraflarıma bakarken durmalarını istiyorum. Çünkü güzellik, heyecan, mizah... Onları şaşırtmak istiyorum. İlgisizlik en kötü şey. Fotoğraflar izleyiciyi etkilemeli. Her gün bunun için uğraşıyorum.

Genellikle yalnız mı yoksa diğer fotoğrafçılarla mı seyahat edersiniz?

Genelde yalnız çekerim. Bunu tercih ederim çünkü arkadaşlarla daha eğlenceli olmasına rağmen, nereye ve ne zaman istersem gidebilirim.

Vahşi yaşamı çekmek için tercih ettiğiniz yerler nereleridir?

Kesinlikle Afrika’yı tercih ederim. Fakat şimdi, tüm dünyadan vahşi hayvanların yarı özgür biçimde yaşadığı doğal bir rezerv olan ülkemde çekiyorum.

Portfolyonuz harika vahşi yaşam ve manzara fotoğrafları içeriyor. Bize çekim zamanı ve mevsimi ile ilgili biraz ipuçları verebilir misiniz?

Azim ve sabır. Çekim için tüm mevsimleri ve hava koşullarını severim. İyi bir çekim için çok zaman harcarım. Bazen hiç çekemeden eve döndüğüm olur. Aldırmam, yarın geri dönüp tekrar beklerim. Yağışlı, sisli, güneşli... Hiç farketmez. Işık en önemli şeydir...

Vahşi yaşam ve manzara fotoğrafçılığı için yanınında ne çeşit bir donanım taşırsınız?

Aslında, vahşi yaşam için bir Canon 30D ve 100-400 lensler, manzara için 10-20 lens ve Manfretto tripodumla çekim yaparım.

Bu harika çekimlerin anahtarları nedir? Çekimlerden evvel medistasyon yapar ya da müzik dinler misiniz? Ya da sadece olabildiğince konuya mı konsantre olursunuz?

Bence anahtar sadece tektir: Fotoğrafçılığı seviyorum ve ne çekmek istediğimi çok iyi biliyorum. 15 yaşımdan beri fotoğraf çekmekten çok hoşlanıyorum. Konsantrasyona ihtiyacım yok, sadece güzel ve ılık bir ışığa ihtiyacım var.

Fotoğraflarınıza photoshop ile müdahalede bulunuyor musunuz? Varsa ne çeşit?

Evet, fotoğraflarıma photoshopta müdahale ediyorum.Genellikle levels, contrast ve sharp kullanıyorum. Her zaman dikkatliyim.

Bu işi yaparken başınızdan geçen bir hikaye var mı?

Birkeresinde ıssız bir yerde bir yusufçuğu çekiyordum derken arkamdaki çalılarda bir hareketlilik işittim. Bu “şey” bana doğru yaklaşıyordu ve ne olduğunu göremiyordum. Kameramla birlikte yalnızdım ve aniden üç başıboş kocaman köpek göründü. Arabam  uzaktaydı. Tehdit edici bakışları ile beni izlerlerken yavaşça arkamı dönmeden uzaklaşmaya başladım. Böylece gün fotoğraflarım sona erdi.

Bir başka seferinde, denizde , uzakta oluşan bir fırtınayı çekiyordum fakat beni hızla geriye attı. Rüzgar, yağmur ve şimşek nefes kesiciydi. Gece, fırtınanın ortasındaydım. Sonra , ve evet, arabama doğru koştum.

Bazen uzak bölgelerde korkuya kapılıyorum , onun dışında hiç sıkılmıyorum, çok eğleniyorum.

Aklınızdaki gelecek projeniz nedir?

Şu anda vahşi hayvanlarla ilgili ilk kitabım üzerinde çalışıyorum.

Hiç Türkiye’de bulundunuz mu? Hakkında ne düşünüyorsunuz?

Türkiye’de bulunmadım ama ülkenizin güzelliğini anlatan pek çok arkadaşım var. En kısa zamanda oraya seyahat etmek isterim.

Can you give us some brief information about yourself and your journey of photograph?

I'm a freelance photographer, and also a musician. I love my work. I feel happy with my profession.

What artists do you like? Who inspires you?

I am passionate about art. Painting, architecture, music, literature... and photography. So I like  a lot of artist who inspires me. Since Brunelleschi to Steve Bloom. But everyone who answer about this question, talk about great and even death artist.There is a lot of people near of me who inspire me. Family, friends, and unknown photographers.

Can you give us some information about your technique shortly?

I like so much isolated subject, with a dark background. So I try to find a background with shade trees or shade water, while the subject is under the sun light. In this way, you can remove any object that distracts the attention. I like caring much frames

What do you want to transfer about yourself and your feelings to people looking at your photographs? What is your purpose taking photograps?

I just want people stop looking the pictures. Because  the beauty, excitement, humor...  I would like to surprise them. Indifference is the worst thing. Pictures must to impact to the viewer. I try it every day.

Do you usually shoot alone or travel with other photographers?

I usually shoot alone. I prefer it, because I go wherever and whenever I want. Althoug it's more fun with friends.

Which place or places do you prefer to shoot wildlife?

I prefer Africa certainly. But now I shoot in a Nature Reserva, in my country, where wild animals from all over the world live in semi liberty. 

Your portfolio consists of great wildlife and landscape photographs. Can you give us some hints about the shooting time and seasons?

Perseverance and patience. I like all seasons to shoot, and any weather condition. I spend a lot of time waiting for a good shoot. Some days I return home without one. Never mind, tomorrow i'll be back, and I'll try again. Rainy, foggy, sunny... never mind. Light is the most important thing.

What kinds of equipment do you usually carry for wildlife and landscape photography?

Actually I shoot with a Canon 30D and 100-400 lenses for wildlife; a 10-22mm for landscapes. And Manfrotto tripod.

What are the keys to these great shots? Do you make meditation before shooting or listen to music? Or just consentrate on your subject very well?

I think that the key is only one: I love photography. And I know so well what I want to shoot. I enjoyed so much taking photographs since I was 15 years old. I need no concentration, I only need a beautiful and warm  light.

Do you make some post processing on Photoshop? If yes, what kinds of?

Yes, I process my pictures in Photoshop. Usually levels, contrast and sharp. Always carefully and zones.

Is there one story / experience that stands out in the making of this work?

Once I was shooting to dragonflies in a lonely spot, then, to my back between some bushes away I heard something move. That "something" was approaching towards me, and I could not see what it was. I was alone with my camera and suddenly appeared  three huge stray dogs. My car was far away. Slowly I began to get away without giving back, while they  watched me threatening. Thus ended my day photos.

Another time, I was shooting  a storm at sea, that seemed distant, but rushed upon me too much fast. Wind, rain and lighting was breathtaking, and I was in the middle of the storm at night. Then, yes, I ran towards the car.

Sometimes I have felt fear, in remote locations, others I have  fun a lot, never bored.

What are your next projects in your mind ?

Now I'm working in my first book about wild animals.

Have you ever been to Turkey ? What do you think about it?

I have never been in Turkey, but I have a lot of friends who talk beauty about your country. I would like to travel soon there.

İspanya'nın kuzey kıyısında Cantabria'da doğdum.

Fotoğrafçılık benim için bir tutku, yaşam tarzı. Doğayı, hayvanları ve manzaraları seviyorum. O çok harika, çünkü etrafımdaki herşeyi daha yoğun bir şekilde algılayabiliyorum; nesneleri, detayları, manzaraları, hareketi, şekilleri ve özellikle ışığı. Her gün fotoğraf çekmek için dışarı çıkmaktan çok hoşlanıyorum.

Fotoğrafçılığa ilgim küçük bir kızken başlamıştı. Babam, okuldan evvel benimle birlikte gelmek üzere  erkenden kalkmıştı ve kış fırtınasını dikkatle izliyordu. Daha sonra onu , karanlık odada filmleri banyo ederken seyrettim, büyülenmişti. Zayıf  kırmızı ışıkta şekillerin nasıl hayat bulmaya başladıklarinı hatırlıyorum. O zamandan beri doğa sevgisi ve fotoğraf tutkusu benim bir parçam. Aynı zamanda ben bir müzisyenim, iletişimin sanatsal ve çok güzel bir şekli; fakat yine de fotoğraf makinesi, duygularımı ifade edebilecegim mükemmel bir araç.

Fotoğraflarım dergi kapaklarında basıldı (Photoart, Photocult), sayısız kitaplarda ve National Geographic Travel gibi  dergilerde yayınlandı. Ülkemde pek çok ödül aldım. Şu an vahşi hayvanlarla ilgili ilk kitabım üzerinde çalışıyorum. Tüm fotoğraflarım babamın anısına  ithaf edilmiştir.

About Marina CANO

I was born in Cantabria, in the North coast of Spain.

Photography is a passion for me, is my way of life.  I love nature: animals and landscape. It's fantastic, because I can perceive more intensely everything around me: objects, details, landscapes, movement, shapes... and specially: light. I enjoy coming out every day to take photographs.

I have been interested in photography since I was a little girl, when my father, before the school, was getting up early with me to go and contemplate the winter storms. Later, I watched him, fascinated, while he was processing pictures in the dark room. I remember how images slowly coming to life under a wake red light.

Since then, love for nature and passion for photography are part of me. I'm also musician, an artistic and wonderful way of comunication, but it's nevertheless the camera the perfect instrument to express my feelings.

My photographs have appeared on covers for magazines (PhotoArt, Photocult) and published in countless books and magazines such National Geographic Travel.  Also I'm the recipient of numerous awards in my country. Now I'm working in my first book about wild animals.

All of my photographs are dedicated to my father's memory.
