New York her zaman değişme  ve son zamanlarda yer değiştirme, yeniden şekillenme ve ortadan kaybolma yeri olmuştur. Bununla birlikte, şahsen, zamanın kıymetli olduğu tecrübesini edindim. İki buçuk yıl evvel başlayan fotoğrafçılıkla ilgili tesadüfi işler, fotoğraf çekmeyi nerde bıraktığımı düşünmeme yol açtı. Bulduğum şey New York fotoğraflarının kendilerini zinimde halen devam ettirdiği idi. Onları yeniden film üzerinde kaydetmeye karar verdim.

Uzun zamandır, anavatanım olan New York'la ilgili geniş ölçekli bir proje yapmayı istiyordum. Hem gittikçe yaşlanıyor oluşum hem de şehirdeki değişimler nedeniyle elimi çabuk tutmak gerektiğini düşünüyordum. Son zamanlarda hararetle,  gece, gece sonrasını fotoğraflıyor, her seferinde farklı manzaralar buluyordum. 

10 yıldan fazla siyah-beyaz çekim yaptıktan sonra renkli çekime geçmek sanatımı canlandırdı. Tecrübelerime dayanarak uzun pozlamaların sürprizleri davet ettiği gece çekimlerini tercih ediyorum.

New York has always been a place of change, and lately it seems to be increasingly and rapidly shifting, reshaping, and vanishing. Along with this, I personally have experienced the feeling that time is precious. Beginning about two and a half years ago, all the incidental work of doing photography weighed on me to the point where I stopped taking photographs. What I found, though, was that the images of New York continued to impress themselves on my imagination. I recently decided I had to get back to capturing them again on film.

For a long time, I have wanted to do a large-scale project on New York, my hometown. I have a sense of urgency, though, both with my feelings of getting older and with the rapidity of the changes in the city. Lately, I have been photographing feverishly, night after night, finding new aspects of the landscape to capture at every turn.

After over 10 years of shooting black and white images, choosing to shoot color has rejuvenated my art. Per my usual practice, I am shooting at night, where the long exposures invite surprises.

Robert Vizzini, New York Brooklyn’de 1952’de doğdu. Kendi kendini yetiştirmiş olan Vizzini, 1991’den beri ciddi olarak fotoğrafçılık yapmaktadır. 1997’de katıldığı Michael Kenna  atölyesi, az ışıkta çekim tutkusunu güçlendirdi.”Zayıf ve zarif göz” olarak tanınan Robert‘in çalışması; Aperture, Blind Spot, DoubleTake ve Black & White Dergileri gibi pek çok büyük yayında yer almıştır. Vizzini, Uluslararası Fotoğrafçılık Ödüllerinden Yeni Keşif Ödülü’nü alan ilk kişidir. Çalışması, Bibliotèque nationale de France, Paris, Fransa; Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona Beach, Florida, USA, ve Swiss Re Capital Partners, Zürih, İsviçre gibi pek çok devlet koleksiyonunda yer almaktadır.

Robert Vizzini was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1952. Being mostly self-taught Vizzini has been photographing seriously since 1991. A workshop with Michael Kenna in 1997 solidified his passion for low-light shooting. Known for his “spare and elegant eye” Robert’s work has been featured in many of the major art photography publications including, Aperture, Blind Spot, DoubleTake, and Black & White Magazine. Vizzini was the first recipient of the New Discovery Award, of the International Photography Awards. His work is in many public collections including, Bibliotèque nationale de France, Paris, France; Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona Beach, Florida, USA, and Swiss Re Capital Partners, Zurich, Switzerland
