Tim Mantoani, 3mm kamerasını lise danışmanının fotoğrafını çekmek üzere ilk defa eline alıp gözlerine kaldırdığı anı hatırlıyor. Görüntü üretme sevdası onu, reklam fotoğrafçılığında uzmanlaşacağı Brooks Fotoğrafçılık Enstitüsü’ne götürdü. Mezun olduktan sonra ünlü fotoğraf eğiticisi Dean Collins’in stüdyo yöneticisi oldu. 1995’te kendi San Diego stüdyosunu açtı. Mantoani’nin kredileri; Coors, Coca-Cola, Top-Flight ve Oakley için reklam kampanyalarının yanısıra Sports Illustrated, Newsweek ve ESPN The Magazine’i de kapsar. Tim’in San Diego stüdyosu tam hizmet vermenin dışında aynı zamanda havaalanından rahatlıkla ulaşılabilecek yakınında pek çok Amerikan Müzesi bulunan bir yerdedir.Bugün Tim, herhangi bir iş için çekim yapmıyorsa, on yıllık sürede ortaklaşa kültür çekimleri yapan ve kendi kameraları ile ünlü saygın fotoğrafçıları belgeliyor. Efsanevi rock fotoğrafçıları Jim Marshall ve Michael Zagaris de; Walter Iooss, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Pete Turner, Elliott Erwitt, Mary Ellen Mark ve Roberto Salas gibi 20x24 inch polaroid portreler için modellik yaptılar. Tim’in fotografik ortama ilgisi, kariyeri süresince karşılaştığı değişikliklerden etkilenmemiş. Onun için bu bir görev değil: O, her yüzde ve her yerde bir hikaye görür ve çalışması ile bunlara ses verir.
About Tim MANTOANI
Tim Mantoani remembers the moment he first held a 35mm camera in his hand and raised it to his eye to take a photograph of his high school counselor. His love of image making drew him to Brooks Institute of Photography, where he specialized in advertising photography. After graduation he became studio manager for renowned photographic educator Dean Collins. He opened his own San Diego studio in 1995. Mantoani’s credits include Sports Illustrated, Newsweek and ESPN The Magazine, as well as ad campaigns for Coors, Coca-Cola, Top-Flight and Oakley. Tim’s San Diego studio is not only full-service; it’s a near museum full of Americana—an easy place to hang out and conveniently located by the airport. Today, when Tim’s not shooting on assignment, he’s documenting venerable lens men who have collectively captured decades of culture and celebrity with their own cameras. Legendary rock photographers Jim Marshall and Michael Zagaris have sat for 20 x 24-inch Polaroid portraits, as have Walter Iooss, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Pete Turner, Elliott Erwitt, Mary Ellen Mark and Roberto Salas. Tim’s enthusiasm for the medium of photography is undiminished by the changes he’s seen during his career. For him it’s not work so much as a mission: He sees the story there in each face, and in each place and lives to gives them voice through his work.
